Lodge The Gael No. 609
On Thursday 14th November my Depute Master, Senior Warden and I all attended Lodge The
Gael No. 609 in Blackie Street Halls. The occasion was a Remembrance meeting to honor the Fallen of all conflicts both past and present. After being invited to join their Master, Bro.Stewart Walker in the East, I had the pleasure and privilege of introducing our Master Elect Bro. Michael English to the Master and Brethren of The Gael and the assembled visitors. Again a very poignant service took place with considerable differences, PM Keith Bowes read out aroll-call of the brethren from the Gael who paid the ultimate sacrifice. A chilling few moments in deed! Enhancing the service was PM Bro. Keith Andrew Bowes who skirled the Fields of the Forest on the pipes and PM Bro.Robin Shields bugling the ‘Last Post’ and rouse albeit on trumpet. Both added to the occasion and atmosphere. The Master then closed the lodge where Brothers Keith Bowes and Robin Shields gave a lecture of the brethren of Lodge The Gael missing from the roll-call earlier in the evening. This was a brilliant lecture and gave a good insight, backed up by war records and Masonic minutes on a power point presentation,of the brethren who never made it back! Very interesting indeed!! Afterwards harmony took over and both the Master Elect and I stayed back and enjoyed the company.
